http://greenpowerscience.com/ A large Fresnel Lens (moderate Fresnel groove) solar focused on a copper lens tube with a 12 V pump (powered by two 6 watt solar panels) with water circulating through the unit. Water, seven gallons, was raised from 63 F to 106 F in one hour. It is not super efficient as heat is lost at the open top of the glass tank. This is designed to illustrate one method of solar heating a swilling pool with a Large Fresnel Lens. TESTING HDD AQUA BLOCK.
This Lens is one of my giant solar Fresnel Lens in my personal collection. It is a spot lens measuring 1.4732m x 1.143m and has a 1500mm focal length. http://greenpowerscience.com/ This lens delivers 1.6 sq m of concentrated sunlight to a 25mm area. We are developing a quad section version of a lens slightly larger than this one.
http://pipetalk.stores.yahoo.net/ PIPEtalk Industrial Pipe Estimating shows how to heat your pool. So many of you have asked why can't we use a magnifier glass to heat the pool water. As normal, PIPEtalk continues to think outside the box. Here is a method using 1-1/2” PVC pipe, aluminum plate/angle, threaded rods, four large linear Fresnel lens, a single direction sun tracker, a timer, battery and solar battery charging system. The system would be more efficient with metal pipe. Now we answer the compelling question, "how can I use a magnifying glass to heat the pool" for you! Each "hot spot" is 210 degrees. The result is about a half-degree rise in the water temperature (5300 Gal) over an eight-hour day using a one HP pump. Valves slow the water flow rate through the solar system...
This solar water lens that is almost 30 inches in diameter is grid free energy and can burn through wood quickly. It delivers a very large powerful focal point that is only useful around noon in the summertime when the sun is directly overhead. The material is crystal clear vinyl shower curtain. This lens concentrates about 500 watts of solar heat energy to a focal point of 1 inch optimal with a 3-6 inch scatter.
http://www.homemadepowerplant.com/?hop=adonpub Charls Shults illustrates how he is able to generate six kilowatts of solar energy at a fraction of the cost of current photovoltaic solar panel systems. With his system, you are able to supply your home with electrical power and hot water for about $6,000 instead of the $50,000 plus for a conventional photovoltaic solar panel electric system, which he states is the norm.
Fresnel Lens solar water filtration systems offer an off grid option to clean water This solar distiller can deliver .5 GPH The Fresnel lens concentrates sunlight to a common focal point that creates a steam boiler allowing for rapid distillation with the sun. http://greenpowerscience.com/ If you are concerned, add 10mg Na to each liter. Also, eating food with water, all minerals are mixed with fluid in the stomach converting distilled water into mineral water. Distilled water is not magic, if you add a splash of milk to tea made with distilled water, you now have 10x the calcium of regular mineral water. http://www.eves-best.com/distilled-water-myths.htm Distilled water is very good for you. The only areas it may cause a problem is developing nations that have near famine conditions. ...
Solar Fresnel Lens and a Tevana Tea vacuum container + steel wool nanoparticles. Superheated http://www.greenpowerscience.com/ steel wool creates nanoparticle surface structure. The steel wool has a vast surface area, when superheated dry, the smooth shiny surface structure opens up creating structural crevices less than 100 nanometers that act as nanoparticles. Any previously mirrored metallic object that is dulled with heat alone has this micro structure. This is different than sanding. The direct contact with the aqueous solution allows for optimal heat transfer from the heated metal surface to the water. Steel wool is a good choice over mud bath nanoparticle suspensions as the skeletal structure allows for enhanced area coverage in 3 dimension vs that of a 2 dimensional mud bath. G...

Lightouse fresnel lens solar collector with sun tracking. This a solar collector that uses fresnel lens and precise solar tracking. As a result it can absorb the solar radiation all the hours of the day with high efficiency. It can be used as steam generator, house heating and for warming up water for general use. It includes overheating protection, rain or snow recognition and automatic cleaning of the collector glass if needed. Also the display you see in the video shows input, output , ambient temperatures and sun power as well as the power of the collector in calories, watts or percent. These values are also stored in the memory for future evaluation. The cost of this solar collector in terms of calories produced, is much lower than the conventional solar collectors.
Solar scorcher that I finished building. Fresnel lens came from a free, 50" Toshiba rear projection TV. Framed up with 2x2, but I still need to build an adjustable table in order to place things within focus of the lens, or near focus, depending on the application. If you want your comments to remain, do not use foul language. I remove comments with foul language, whether your comments intentions are good or bad.
this video demonstrates using a fresnel lens to heat your home
Heating a swimming pool with Fresnel Lenses is possible but simply pointing one at clear water does nothing. A dark target is required to absorb the concentrated sunlight. Fresnel Lenses do not amplify light, they concentrate light. An obstructions blocking the path of natural sunlight light a lens simply redirects light from a larger area to a smaller area. The better option is to sink large dark objects to the bottom of your pool where sunlight can expose the dark object. Square area is square area so a one meter square Fresnel Lens concentrated to a dark target in a swimming pool will collect the same amount of solar energy as a one meter square black sheet of plastic or metal. Since the objects are submerged, metal and plastic are equally as effective due to equal surface area in an aq...
I use a large fresnel lens to test the effect of concentrated sunlight on a solar cell. To keep the solar cell cool I immerse it in mineral oil. I measure the voltage, current and the temperature. But I also test it without the cooling and sure enough, the solar cell is destroyed by the concentrated sunlight. The fresnel lens is one I got from a rear projection TV. See also my video all about fresnel lenses, "Fresnel lens - what is it, testing focal length, solar heat generated": http://youtu.be/11n0ZaZMj3A To watch my video about the fresnel lens combined with a mirror, "Fresnel lens and mirror solar cooker cast iron pan", see: http://youtu.be/hWDkCnpLRPA And for the video "What is Fire" watch: http://youtu.be/V3sV8t_HUdc In this one I use a small fresnel lens to concentrated sunlight...
A large solar Fresnel Lens can melt small 12" x 12" areas of asphalt using renewable energy to a nice finish that can work well filling small potholes . This is not practical for large road finishing but this skid steer loader can hold a large array of Fresnel Lenses for a wide area of coverage. This loader makes a great option for focusing heavy solar concentrators.
This simple experiment illustrates the intersection between optics and thermodynamics.
http://greenpowerscience.com/ Sunlight can be used to produce steam. Welding / brazing with a Fresnel Lens does not work very well for larger masses of steel. The steel cores are excellent heat storage cells for later usage or instantaneously boiling water for high powered steam pulses.
My first attempt at boiling water with the power of the sun and a giant fresnel lens

Here I supervise my son as he starts a fire using the basic materials we've gathered into our PSK ( personal / pocket survival kit ). This is NOT an Instructional, Tutorial, or How-To video but is for entertainment purposes only. He used a magnifying lens (not glass but 4x acrylic fresnel type), jute, scrap wood tinder, and vaseline (petroleum jelly). Things learned: 1) Preferebly don't start a fire right next to a bundle of leaves. 2) Blow horizontally away from you instead of straight down if possible. 3) Position yourself so that the wind is blowing from behind or from your side (you are at the mercy of the direction of the sun however).

Hot Water Circulation is the lowest cost heating I have found to heat 1800 sq. ft. using my Gas Water Heater with a 110 gallon storage tank for both Heating, Hot Water. My Gas bill runs about 18 dollars a month in the summer and 70 in the winter and also includes gas cooking, and so far I have not had a problem running out of hot water.
The core Question I asked myself was, can I boil water with a tea candle in a survival situation ? Short answer: Yes you can but you need a few Things. You need 3 Tea candles a wind cover time and dont use too much water. (I used 250 ml.) Should you do it ? No not really spend your Tea light on light or to start a fire, only if your life depends on it (for some reason I cant emagine) do it. At 19:10 you see me achieve a break trough using a pot cover ;-)
It's been almost a year since I installed this Solar Hot Water Heater to generate hot water for my summer shower. This video is an update covering how the unit is performing and holding-up. I also discuss some of the science behind how the unit actually works. A few months ago, we had a (weak) hurricane come through the area. Some small limbs blew off a nearby tree and fell on the unit. They caused no damage. If you are interested in installing one of these units, and have any questions, feel free to contact me via Skype. My user name is: john_by_the_creek. When you send a contact request, please reference "solar water heater".
I have been working on this for years. This one will bring up water temps by 55 degrees on a sunny day. Copper would be the best long term for this unit but my budget will not allow that expense. I would love to see someone do it though. I use to sell these video's but I had a change in heart I hope Y'all enjoy

This is an awesome little parabolic solar cooker. That it breaks down and can be stored in a small pouch makes it perfect for a tiny house. Finding the focal point is easy. I had a bit of trouble with it because the table it was sitting on is a bit un-even. You may have better luck setting it on the ground. https://www.facebook.com/thesunjuicer http://www.sunjuicer.com/
